Michael Tummings, born 1966 in London to Jamaican immigrants, sees himself as a world citizen. Faced with terms such as origin, nation and ethnicity already in his childhood, the camera became his tool to overcome cultural barriers.
In the past 15 years Tummings created a diversified body of art photography additional to his commercial body of work for major international clients. Driven by an anthropological curiosity he targets his opponents without judging and with an openness that is based on the knowledge that we are all equal in our pursuit of happiness.
For many years the artist accompanied the Lost Tribe, an international group of eclipse chasers and outdoor dancers. He then followed nomads in the Himalaya, before he dedicated himself to the project “Hidden”, about the oldest form of subjection of nature – hunting.
Michael Tummings lives and works in Munich, Germany.
